Talk1v1 ("we," "us," or "our") operates talk1v1.com. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect when you use our service, how we use it, and what rights you have regarding your data. By using Talk1v1, you agree to the practices described here. If you do not agree, please stop using the platform.
1. Information We Collect
Technical and Usage Data
When you visit or use Talk1v1, we automatically collect limited technical information necessary to operate the service:
- IP address (used for regional matching and abuse prevention)
- Browser type and version
- Operating system
- Referring URL
- Session timestamps and approximate duration
- Country or region (derived from IP address — we do not collect precise GPS location)
We do not collect your name, email address, phone number, or any contact information unless you voluntarily provide it, for example by emailing our support team.
Device Information
We may collect basic device information — such as screen resolution and device type — in order to optimize video quality for your hardware. This data is not linked to any persistent user identifier and is not retained beyond the session.
User Communications
If you contact us by email, we retain your message and email address for the purpose of responding to and resolving your inquiry. We do not add you to any mailing list, and we do not use support correspondence for advertising.
2. How We Use Information
We use the information described above to:
- Deliver the video chat service and match users in real time
- Detect and prevent abuse, harassment, spam, and rule-violating behavior
- Diagnose technical problems and maintain service performance
- Comply with legal obligations
We do not use your data for behavioral advertising. We do not build user profiles. We do not sell, rent, share, or trade your personal data with third parties for commercial purposes.
3. Cookies
Talk1v1 uses a small number of cookies that are necessary for the service to function correctly:
- Session cookies: Maintain your active session during a visit. These expire automatically when you close your browser.
- Preference cookies: Store lightweight settings such as age-confirmation. These are stored in your browser's local storage and are not transmitted to our servers.
We do not use third-party advertising cookies or social media tracking pixels. You can manage cookie behavior in your browser settings; blocking essential session cookies may prevent Talk1v1 from functioning correctly.
4. Device Information
As noted above, we collect basic device and browser information to optimize the video experience. This data is used exclusively for technical matching and quality optimization purposes. It is not linked to any persistent identity, not retained beyond what is needed for operational purposes, and not shared with third parties for marketing.
5. Analytics
We use privacy-respecting analytics tools to understand aggregate usage patterns — for example, which pages receive the most visits, approximate geographic distribution of users, and how session duration varies. Analytics data is processed in aggregate and does not identify individual users. We do not use analytics providers that build cross-site user profiles for advertising.
6. User Generated Content
Talk1v1 does not record or store video or audio from user sessions. All sessions are real-time only. The video and audio stream you share during a session is transmitted directly to the matched participant and is not retained on our servers after the session ends.
If you submit a report about another user, we may retain the information you provide in connection with that report — including a description of the incident and approximate timestamp — in order to investigate and take appropriate action.
7. Data Retention
We retain technical log data (including IP addresses) for a limited period — generally no longer than 90 days — for security monitoring and abuse prevention. After this period, logs are deleted or irreversibly anonymized.
Support emails are retained for as long as necessary to resolve the matter in question, and are generally deleted within 12 months of resolution.
We do not retain video session data. There is no recording to delete.
8. Security
We implement reasonable technical and organizational security measures to protect the limited data we hold. These measures include encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS for all traffic), network-level access controls on backend systems, and restrictions on internal access to personal data.
No internet-based service can guarantee absolute security. If you have reason to believe the security of your data has been compromised, please contact us at [email protected] promptly.
9. Third-Party Services
Talk1v1 uses third-party infrastructure providers — such as cloud hosting and content delivery services — to operate the platform. These providers process data on our behalf and are contractually bound to use it only for the services they provide to us, not for their own commercial purposes.
We do not embed third-party advertising networks, social media tracking scripts, or data broker integrations on our platform.
10. Children's Privacy
Talk1v1 is strictly for users who are 18 years of age or older. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 18. If you believe that a minor has accessed or used our platform, or that personal data belonging to a minor has been submitted to us, please contact us immediately at [email protected]. We will investigate and take appropriate action, which may include deletion of any related data and reporting to relevant authorities where required by law.
11. Your Rights
If you are located in the European Union, the United Kingdom, California, or another jurisdiction with applicable privacy law, you may have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Request correction of inaccurate information
- Request deletion of your personal data
- Object to or restrict certain processing activities
- Lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority
To exercise any of these rights, email us at [email protected] with the subject line "Privacy Request." We will acknowledge your request within a reasonable timeframe and respond within 30 days, or as required by applicable law.
12. Updates to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in the service, our practices, or applicable law. When we do, we will update the effective date at the top of this page. If changes are material, we will make reasonable efforts to communicate them — for example, via a notice on the site.
Continued use of Talk1v1 after a revised policy is posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated terms.
